This study shows that replacing nicotine with patches can result in the reduction of number of cigarettes consumed. The implications of this finding are tremendous because it supports the notion that people may be able to reduce the harmful effect without having to stop smoking. The truth of this has not been tested, nor has the impact on overall public health.
