Very important book describing that the ITB is a thickened portion (or reinforcement) of the aponeurotic fascia lata, also named the deep fascia of the thigh. It is composed of three layers: a superficial, an intermediate and a deep layer merging over the greater trochanter. Distally, ITB fibers connect to the linea aspera via the lateral intermuscular septum, terminating just proximal to the lateral condyle of the femur.
