BMJ. 2017;357. This systematic review and meta-analysis compares all-cause and overdose mortality among patients with OUD in and out of treatment with methadone or buprenorphine. Significant decreases in all-cause and overdose mortality are seen among patients on methadone maintenance, and a trend toward significance is seen among patients receiving buprenorphine.
