A successful therapeutic response was required to confirm causality. Gastroesophageal reflux was the third most common cause of chronic cough, occurring in 41% of the patients.

An excellent and comprehensive review article summarizing the association of GERD and cough. It includes a discussion of the various mechanisms by which GERD may induce cough. Several aspects of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic cough are discussed.
