This is the 1st evidence that the characteristic epithelial change in BE is associated with genetic changes in children as well as adults, inferring that relatively short periods of exposure to GERD can have this effect in some patients. The importance of this study is that even at the pediatric level, BE can show genetic changes associated with neoplastic progression.
