Presents a new method to evaluate the diagnostic perfor-mance of a marker for bladder cancer. Analysis of their cases showed that log of a quantitative diagnostic marker (QDM) and a history of tumor recurrence within 9 months before entry into the trial correlated with tumor recurrence, while neither grade nor remote history of recurrent TCC did. For every 10-fold increment in the QDM level there is a 60% increase in the hazard for bladder tumor recurrence. There-fore, evaluating these data in this manner rather than with conventional sensitivity and specificity calculations may present a more reliable estimate of the utility of voided urine diagnostic tests.
