The paper assesses the prevalence, comorbidity, familial course, and treatment of violent behaviors during sleep (VBS). Results of a large-scale epidemiological study, conducted by structured telephonic interviews in about 20,000 subjects from 6 European countries aged 15 to 101 years old, are presented. The paper underlines the substantial prevalence of this condition, the frequent association of VBS with multiple parasomnia in the same subject and among families, and the possible frequent association with sleep disordered breathing.
