1. For the ρ-meson see, for example,A. Erwin, R. March, W. Walker andE. West:Phys. Rev. Lett.,6, 628 (1961). For the ω meson,B. Maglić, L. Alvarez, A. Rosenfeld andM. Stevenson:Phys. Rev. Lett.,7, 178 (1961). The situation with respect to the width of the ρ-meson is still somewhat unclear but its full width may be of the order of 100 MeV. The ω width is almost certainly less then 20 MeV and all of this may be experimental uncertainty in energy resolution. The center of the ω mass curve, is given at about 790 MeV and the ρ at about 750 MeV.

2. M. Alston, L. Alvarez, P. Eberhard, M. Good, W. Graziano, H. Ticho andS. Wojcicki:Phys. Rev. Lett.,5, 520 (1960). The mass of the Y*1 is about 1385 MeV with a width of around 50 MeV. Its spin is still not known and the remarks which are given below apply to the Y*1, Y*0 system only if these objects have thesame spin. The Y*0 has a mass of about 1400 MeV and a width of 20 MeV, seeM. Alston, L. Alvarez, P. Eberhard, M. Good, W. Graziano, H. Ticho andS. Wojcicki:Phys. Rev. Lett.,6, 698 (1961), and makes its appearance in K−-p inelastic scattering.

3. S. Glashow:Phys. Rev. Lett.,7, 469 (1961). Related considerations are given byH. P. Dürr andW. Heisenberg (to be published).

4. G. Feinberg:Phys. Rev. Lett.,8, 151 (1962).

5. The treatment to be presented here follows closely that given inT. D. Lee, R. Oehme andC. N. Yang:Phys. Rev.,106, 340 (1957); however, they consider the degenerate case in which the unperturbed particles, for themK 1 andK 2, have identical masses and the mass shifts are due entirely to the perturbation. Since the mass differences in the pairings we consider are many MeV it is unlikely that these splittings are due to electro-magnetic couplings. For a similar treatment to ours see alsoK. Aizu:Nuovo Cimento,6, 1040 (1957).
