A recent systematic review of treatment in hypertensive crises. The results of this review show comparable efficacy and safety for nicardipine and labetalol, although nicardipine appears to provide more predictable and consistent BP control than labetalol. In a number of included studies there was a theme of a relative lack of awareness among health care professionals regarding the use of nicardipine in patients with stroke, despite its inclusion in AHA/ASA guidelines, and authors suggest a requirement for education regarding the appropriate use and the approved indications of the drug.
