To date, this is the largest meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of the phenotypes of blood pressure by the International Consortium of Blood Pressure (ICBP). It included a discovery GWAS among 69,395 individuals and a combined sample of about 200,000 Europeans. It identified 16 novel loci associated with blood pressure. A genetic risk score calculated by GWAS significant variants was associated with hypertension, left ventricular wall thickness, stroke, and coronary artery disease.
