Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this work is to develop a functional calculus for simple maximal symmetric operators. The proposed approach is based on the properties of self-adjoint extensions of Phillips symmetric operators. The obtained results are applied to the description of non-cyclic vectors of backward shift operators.
