Abstract
AbstractIn this work, an indirect approach based on acoustic emission signals is presented to predict progressive tool wear in peripheral milling operations. Measurements of flank wear and cutting forces are considered in order to assess the performance of the method. The acoustic emission is found to be sensitive to changes of tool condition and the evolution of the wear land. The latter provides experimental evidence to support the current knowledge on tool wear estimation towards the definition of tool-life criteria based on indirect process variables.
