Author:

Bouchenaki Mounir

Abstract

AbstractThe contribution establishes the importance of the Florence conference on Cultural Heritage in Fragile Contexts. It firstly outlines the endeavors of various international organizations for the salvation of Bamiyan’s giant Buddha statues as well as other assets of cultural heritage in the spring of 2001 and the role of the author in these initiatives. Then, it illustrates the bodies instituted by UNESCO for the management of the Bamiyan World Heritage site, which have been resumed by the above mentioned conference in Florence. Finally, it underscores the relevance of enduring capacity building for the safeguarding of cultural heritage assets, especially in fragile contexts.
