Abstract

Background: High-risk pregnancy is one which is complicated by factor or factors that adversely affects the pregnancy outcome (maternal, perinatal or both). Only 10-30% of the mothers in antenatal period can be classied as high risk but they account for 70-80% of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Every year nearly 529000 women die globally due to pregnancy related causes. Hence, the current study was to evaluate the effectiveness of computer assisted teaching on knowledge regarding bioethical issues in high risk pregnancy and its outcome among antenatal women. Materials & Method: A quantitative research approach and pre – experimental one group pre-test post-test research design was adopted. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 30 antenatal women with high risk pregnancy who met the inclusion criteria. Pre-test knowledge was assessed by structured questionnaire. After implementation of computer assisted teaching post test knowledge was assessed by same structured questionnaire which has been used in pre-test. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics like frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired't' test. Results:The results revealed that in pre-test 30 (100%) had inadequate knowledge and no one had moderately adequate and adequate knowledge. In post-test 12 (40%) had adequate knowledge, 18 (60%) had moderately adequate knowledge and no one had inadequate knowledge. The pre and post-test mean knowledge score were 9.13±1.358 and 21.67±3.273 respectively. The improvement of knowledge is statistically tested by paired ttest which was found to be highly statistically signicant at p<0.001 level. Conclusion:Improving the knowledge on bioethical issues helps to reduce the incidences of high risk pregnancy and its outcomes
