TO STUDY THE OUTCOME OF TYPE-I TYMPANOPLASTY FOR LARGE CENTRAL PERFORATION IN CHRONIC SUPPORATIVE OTITIS MEDIA.

Abstract

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To compare the surgical outcome of (underlay and interlay technique) of Type I Tympanoplasty in CSOM mucosal inactive type with large central perforation with emphasis on the success of graft uptake and the degree of hearing improvement in follow up period of three months. METHOD AND MATERIAL: The current prospective project was conducted in 60 patients for a period of past 3 years at MMIMSR,Ambala. RESULTS: Type 1 tympanoplasty with interlay technique has a better graft uptake(96.7%)as compared with underlay(93.4%) technique of tympanoplasty. Post operative mean A-B gap closure is better in interlay(9.61±2.56) than underlay(9.57±3.69). CONCLUSION: Post operative hearing gain and graft uptake were both better with interlay than the underlay technique.
