Abstract
The golden age of Indian medicine lasted almost 2,000 years,
from about 1000 BCE to about AD 1000. The most famous
works written at this time were the medical treatises known as
the Caraka Sahit in the early part of the second century
A.D.and the uśruta Sahitā in 600 B.C. Āyurveda had eight
branches (aśt ānga āyurveda), one of which was
Kaumārabhrtya, covering gynecology, midwifery, and
pediatrics. This included the classification of diseases of the
female genital tract,including menstrual disturbances.
