Abstract
In the last 75 years of the Indian economy,more than 50 programmes were introduced for the agriculture and rural sector.
In this scenario,it really becomes appropriate to study the current status of Indian agriculture which is the priority sector
in India. This paper is an attempt to analyse the status of Indian agriculture which occupies the highest portion of the
Indian labour force. The present study describes the different programmes implemented for agriculture and rural
development in the previous 75 years.Moreover,the paper describes the trend of the share of the agriculture sector in
Gross Value Added and the rate of growth of agriculture.It also evaluates the production trend of agricultural products,
fisheries and livestock
