Abstract
Rickets is a disease of growing bone caused by unmineralized matrix at the growth plates in children only before
fusion of the epiphyses.
Ÿ There are many causes of rickets, including vitamin D disorders, calcium deficiency, phosphorus deficiency, and
distal renal tubular acidosis
Ÿ VDDR-2A presents as refractory rickets and growth retardation presenting within first year of life and is frequently
associated with alopecia totalis
