Abstract
Aim: The study was undertaken with the aim to evaluate the relationship of Renal arterial resistive with renal impairment/hepatorenal syndrome in
cirrhosis. The present cross-sectional study was conducted among 50 cirrhotic patients (≥ 18 years old). Duplex dopplerMethodology:
evaluation of the renal arteries was done with calculation of mean renal arterial resistive index. The relationship between RI and Child-Turcotte-
Pugh score, MELD score, severity of ascites and HRS was ascertained. RI increases as the degree of ascites increases with maximumResults:
being in severe ascites and had signicant comparability with CTP and MELD scoring systems. 36 patients were having RI ≥ 0.7 and 14 patients
were having RI < 0.7. RI increases with degree of hepatic decompensation. Higher values of RI help in early detection of subsequentConclusion:
kidney dysfunction and hepatorenal syndrome which can be translated into the early initiation of treatment for impending HRS.
