“HEY, HAVE YOU HEARD HEMSBALL?” JOURNEY TO INNOVATION: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Abstract

Hemsball which is a game that can be played by people of all ages with joy is brought to Turkey by Murat Altınay. This game which can be played both in indoor and outdoor contributes to the multiple development of the individuals. The aim of this study is to introduce Hemsball transparently in the light of the opinions of the individuals assigned in the direct management of this totally national branch. The study is in qualitative research model in order to reveal the benefits, characteristics, aims and disadvantages of Hemsball. In the study case study method was used and content analysis was conducted. An inductive approach was carried out in the study. Interviews with the total of 13 participants (7 males and 6 females) were conducted. The Qualitative Research Program MAXQDA was used in the data analysis. As a result of the analysis, under the benefits of Hemsball theme: categories of cognitive, affective, physical and physiological benefits were found. Incorrect sports policies constituted the disadvantages theme. The expectations and recommendations of the participants category constituted the aim theme. Finally, there is difference category under the advantages theme which reveals the different characteristics of Hemsball compared to other branches In conclusion, the aims related to the future of Hemsball branch, the process of emergence of the branch and difficulties in the way as well as the cognitive, affective, physiological and psychological effect on the individuals of all ages who are healthy or disabled are emphasized in the current study. In this context, it is an inevitable fact that as the studies on all age categories continue, more effects of the branch will be revealed. The fact that more projects and studies to be carried out on Hemsball which should be within the curriculum of National Education Ministry will increase the interest of the society related to Hemsball.
