Abstract
This article is a response to the critique of the CPA Ethics Code written by Zepeda and Loredo (2024). It attempts to show that their critique is based on fundamental misunderstandings of the purpose of a professional ethics code, the mission and identity of the CPA, and ultimately, of the Catholic understanding of morality and its relationship with anthropology. The authors' emphasis on charity (caritas) as central to Catholic moral thinking and therefore an essential guidepost to developing professional ethics for an organization such as the CPA is welcome and laudatory. However, this response shows that their understanding of charity falls prey to the common, modern error of separating love from truth.
