Abstract

IN BRIEF This article reviews the most common and immediately life-threatening diabetes-related conditions seen in hospital emergency departments: diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state, and hypoglycemia. It also addresses the evaluation of patients with hyperglycemia and no previous diagnosis of diabetes.
