Abstract
It is known from some recent experiments that a thin, electrically conducting plate on an electrically insulating base gives a heat transfer rate to a laminar shear flow about twice that predicted from some simple boundary-layer theories. It is shown in this paper that close agreement with experiment results if the theory allows for (a) conduction through the base material, giving an effective increase in plate area; and (b) variable heat flux and temperature in the heated plate.
