Abstract
A micro-tube heat exchanger has a large area-volume ratio and is more compact than traditional heat exchangers with larger diameter tubes. This makes it increasingly attractive to be applied in a power generation system. However, the clogging risk and the decreasing of heat transfer coefficient due to fouling are the two major disadvantages in obstructing its real applications. This paper proposed a theoretical model for evaluating the fouling risk while micro-tube heat exchangers are to be utilized in a power generation system. The drawdown of overall heat transfer coefficient and increment of flowing drag are numerically simulated. The size effect of micro-tube heat exchangers on power generation and optimum selection of tube diameter are also discussed.
