Abstract
This paper presents the design information and performance results of three pipe-type centrifugal compressor diffusers tested behind centrifugal impellers of both radial and backswept geometry with design point overall pressure ratios of 6:1 to 10:1. Data from all three diffusers substantiate an incidence based correlation for flow range capacity. The final configuration demonstrates the loss and recovery characteristics of a good conical pipe diffuser, but with improved flowrange and a more flexible noncircular throat cross-section and nonconical diffusion passage.
