Abstract
Microcostatus labrisicus sp. nov., a terrestrial species, is described from mosses growing on concrete flower beds in Gaharu Park (Sambas city, Borneo Island). Its morphology was studied with light and scanning electron microscopy revealed a set of unique morphological features. The new species differs from all other Microcostatus species by having an unusual arrangement of longitudinal depressions, positioned on both sides of sternum. They are separated by thickened fascia with the shape of a symmetric double-headed axe. A detailed morphological comparison taxa with similar morphological characteristics and additional information on the associated diatom flora is also provided.
