Abstract
This paper studies the temperature of the grinding point of an oxide film and establishes a temperature model. The calculation results indicate that the temperature of the grinding point of a single abrasive grain is much higher than that of the grinding zone of the grinding wheel. Based on the analysis of the point-temperature model, the formation mechanism of the composite abrasive grains in an electrolytic in-process dressing (Elid) grinding oxide film is further clarified – that is, under the effect of the high temperature of the grinding point of the abrasive grains, the hydrous ferric oxide (Fe2O3) in the oxide film surrounding the abrasive grains is dehydrated and converted into α-ferric oxide, thus forming the grinding composite abrasive grains centered on grains and surrounded by α-ferric oxide. The results reveal the root causes why an Elid grinding oxide film has a polishing effect, which enriches the Elid grinding technology theory and has extremely important theoretical and practical significance.
