Abstract
Established in 1985, the technical council on forensic engineering of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) conducts an extensive number of projects aimed at disseminating lessons learned from civil engineering failures. The goal is to reduce the frequency and severity of performance deficiencies by influencing improvements in design and construction practices. The activities and projects of the technical council have contributed to a better understanding of the role of forensic engineering in the USA, enhancing both the image and the influence of forensic engineering practice. This brief article summarises the work of the technical council and extends a warm welcome to Forensic Engineering.
