Abstract
The paper proposes a practical new algorithm for calculation of electrical active power and root mean square value of current and voltage signals using a windowing technique by reducing the weight of samples at the endpoints of sampling interval. The proposed method offers a significant improvement in computational efficiency with a low numerical error. The calculation of observed values was realized by summation of samples of instantaneous power in a time domain, without the need for synchronization. The suggested algorithm was simulated and experimentally tested. The errors related to the signal processing, and errors bound were investigated and provided. A processing precision of 0.05% was achieved.
