Abstract
We describe the effects of yarn twist on the structure, properties, and production of a T/C composite yarn. The results show that yarn twist in the special structure of a composite yarn is very critical, and good properties of 19.7 tex T/C composite yam such as high skein strength, good abrasion resistance, and low irregularity and imper fection index are retained when using a low twist of about 650 TPM(TM = 3.0). In addition, when the spread width of polyester multifilament is about 8-10 mm, low twist is good for producing normal torqued composite yams, and medium twist is enough to produce high torqued yams. Hence, there is an economic advantage of an increase of about 75% in production when using medium twist 863 TPM(TM = 4.0) to produce a high torqued composite yarn, which is able to take the place of traditional highly twisted, cotton-rich spun yarns.
