Degradative Wool Shrinkproofing Processes

Abstract

We have studied the protein modification occurring in some degradative shrinkproofing processes, and compared the physical and chemical changes arising from these processes. The treatment medium facilitates the penetration of reactive agents. Although none of the treatments preventing wool shrinkage provoke an appreciable solubilization of the fibers, all of them modify protein to form new ionic compounds.
