Field education in a developing country

Abstract

This article discusses from a cross-cultural perspective the process of establishing a new field in a developing country, highlights inherent problems in its sustainability, and demonstrates that field education transcends its traditional boundaries and emerges as a catalyst for organizational change and social development. Illustrations are given of the role of students in initiating organizational changes and of the social development ventures spearheaded by the Field Placement Coordinator and community agencies.
