Abstract
Bolus injections of insulin in rats have confirmed that insulin is absorbed rapidly from the peritoneal cavity. Details concerning the routes of absorption are still not clear, particularly in view of differences observed between anesthetized and unanesthetized rats. The absorption of insulin through the capsule of the liver has been demonstrated experimentally. The intraperitoneal route is useful for insulin administration, but more work is needed to establish its relative effectiveness and safety in comparison with other routes of administration.
