Abstract

An account of the process and aims of the rehabilitation of the adult with multiple needs is presented. It is argued that rehabilitation is usefully viewed as a goal driven problem solving activity. The selection of goals is discussed in the light of responses to a questionnaire by staff at a neurological rehabilitation centre. It is argued that the aims of rehabilitation should be stated in terms of reduction of handicap or enhancement of valued rôle assumption. The implications for working practice are considered.
