Abstract
This paper attempts to widen the scope of the review by Birch and Calvert (Vol.3, No.l) into academic staffing formulae by considering approaches based on student enrolment and by adding a further workload model which lends itself to graphical presentation. Criticisms of workload schemes are examined and comments made on the applicability of staff entitlement schemes.
