Abstract

A HOUSEHOLD survey investigating attitudes towards health and illness was conducted in rural and urban areas of Zimbabwe between 1981 and 1982. Evidence suggests that many health problems are perceived to arise from occupational factors, amongst both men and women. This is confined not only to those working in the industrial sector, but also includes those engaged in the informal sector and those who 'work' at home. It is argued that the situation calls for a broader definition of 'occupational health' to be introduced.
