The system also executes digital temperature compensation of ESP data to significantly improve overall accuracy and reduce the frequency of on-line calibration as well as the time required to perform them. The digital data are transmitted by fiber optic cables to the 8400 System Processor. The system significantly reducesthe number of conductors which bridge the balance, resulting in improved accuracy of balance data. On-board digitization also prevents degradation of the pressure data due to electromagnetic or radio frequency interference inside the tunnel. It is expected that the recalibration needs will be reduced from an average of once per hour to once every four hours. In addition, a saving of two to eight minutes per calibration will result because less points are required for re-calibration. Time saving projected for future use of this system is not included in the baseline test. secondsduring the repositioning of the model to a new angle of attack between each test condition. This results in saving over 7 hours in the baseline test.
