Abstract

Abstract Retrogression and reaging (RRA) is an established form of postquench aging heat treatment. RRA treatments can be applied to precipitation-hardened aluminum alloys that are used in aerospace applications. This article provides information on the development background of RRA and the steps involved in the RRA treatments. It discusses the process descriptions, applications, microstructural consequences, and limitations of RRA. In addition, the article describes the influence of RRA on mechanical properties.
