Abstract
This comprehensive reference book covers properties, selection, processing, and applications of the most widely used nonmetallic engineering materials. The focus is on two main groups of materials: polymeric materials and ceramics and glasses. Compiled from the four-volume Engineered Materials Handbook series, this single-volume desk edition provides basic property data and an outline of fabrication methods for each material. The “General Engineering Tables and Data” section includes a collection of engineering tables and data as well as a “Guide to Materials Selection” that gives comparative property data and provides an overview of methodologies for selecting materials for specific applications. Dedicated sections focus on plastics, elastomers, polymer-matrix composites, adhesives and sealants, and ceramics and glasses. Information on recycling, metallizing, and ceramic-matrix composites is provided. An extensive illustrated glossary of terms also is included.
