Abstract
Sm -16.7 wt % Co alloy powders were prepared by a high energy ball milling under various milling times, and their micro-structure and magnetic properties were investigated. After 5 h milling, the irregular shaped powders were changed to spherical shape and the size decreased to approximately 5 µm. Based on TEM results, the obtained powders consisted of nano-sized particles with approximately 13 nm, which showed a slight decrease with increasing the milling time. The XRD peaks of powders including the SmCo 5 phase disappeared after milling and became broader with increasing the milling time, and the peaks increased again after 30 h milling. The reduction in coercivity and remanence values appeared with increasing the milling time, whereas the saturated magnetization increased.
