Abstract
Abstract
Sex, power, conflict, coercion, control, manipulation–these are all strong words that evoke powerful emotions. Why is sex so often linked with these other words? This chapter starts with two fundamental assertions. First, much conflict between the sexes is about sex (Symons, 1979). Second, conflicts about power often center on sexuality and control over sexual access. In this chapter, I argue that evolutionary psychology affords critical insights into the nature and operation of conflicts between the sexes generally, and particular aspects of feminist positions more specifically.
