Abstract

BACKGROUND

Wearable devices and smartphones optimised as personalised health management platforms enable prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and even disease treatment. In the post-pandemic era, the significFrom the perspective of a paradigm shift from the smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones, this review aims to propose ways to unleash the potentiality of mobile healthcare in the post-pandemic era. ance of mobile healthcare has been highlighted, and explosive growth in this area is expected to continue.

OBJECTIVE

From the perspective of a paradigm shift from the smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones, this review aims to propose ways to unleash the potentiality of mobile healthcare in the post-pandemic era.

METHODS

This review investigates the latest trends in mobile healthcare technology, which are comprehensive in terms of form factors and detection targets, according to body attachment location and type. Insights and breakthroughs from the perspective of noble healthcare sensing through new form factor and sensor-integrated display overcome the problems of existing mHealth by proposing a solution of smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones.

RESULTS

Innovation in form factor in sensor-integrated displays and convergence healthcare solutions enable the smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones. In particular, the sensor convergence technology of the new form factor display provides a framework to analyse health factors in real-time by conformally adhering to a large-area system to the skin. In the post-pandemic era, innovative mHealth solutions through the smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones could present a new milestone leading to the popularisation of mHealth. This approach maximises the infinite potential of stagnant mobile healthcare technology and will become the standard for a new paradigm in the field of digital medicine.

CONCLUSIONS

This study researched the latest technology trends in mobile healthcare regarding form factors and detection targets according to body attachment location and type. The strategy for smartphonisation of wearable devices and wearable deviceisation of smartphones can accelerate the development of mobile healthcare technology, realising the democratisation of medical care so that anyone can use essential services of high quality. Ubiquitous and accessible medical services offered through mobile health (mHealth) strengthen universal health coverage to facilitate service use without discrimination. Furthermore, it is expected to form a new milestone for the medical paradigm shift in the post-pandemic era.
