Academic journals are venues that share peer-reviewed research to the medical community, but in order for that research to reach the general public, the complex topics need to be translated into lay findings and promoted to the public. To do so, authors can promote their article in the media, including magazines, blogs, news outlets, and social media, which allows the greater public to have access to accurate medical information. Here, we recommend three key methods to promote your publication: 1) share your research with your scholarly network, 2) write a press release to send to journalists working for magazines or blogs, 3) ensure that your research is easy to access, and 4) publicize your article on social media.
