BACKGROUND
Caesarean sections (CS) are a common surgery globally, and the use of technology after hospital discharge is increasing to address knowledge gaps. However, interventions to improve post-discharge recovery for general surgical patients have received limited attention and research, despite the high number of complications resulting in unplanned readmissions.
OBJECTIVE
This study aimed to determine the effect of a mobile-based discharge education program on quality of recovery in women post section cesarean recovery in Indonesia.
METHODS
A prospective, two-arm, single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in six secondary level hospitals in West Java, involving women with chronic sclerosis (CS) at the first day. The study used a randomization service to randomly assign patients to receive standard predischarge education or mobile-based discharge education. A total of 120 women were recruited for each group. Quality of recovery (QoR-15) was measured, and a general estimation equation was used to analyze the simple main effect of different time points in each group.
RESULTS
The repeated ANOVA test revealed that the severity of quality of recovery scores (as measured by the QoR-15 scale) increased significantly in the intervention group after intervention (p-value= 0.001). With the effect size was 0.39, indicating moderate effect size. However, control group did not show a significant improvement. The GEE analysis revealed a significant impact on recovery quality over time, with significant differences between groups. The results also indicated significant effects on recovery quality in the interaction between time and group.
CONCLUSIONS
The study suggests that mobile-based platforms for discharge education can significantly improve recovery quality after cesarean section, highlighting the need for accessible and trustworthy information, suggesting that eHealth could be a viable solution.
