BACKGROUND
Epidermolysis bullosa is a global orphan genetic disease. EB treatments such as expensive dressings are often unavailable in resource poor environments.
OBJECTIVE
To identify treatments that can be used in resource poor areas to prolong life and improve the quality of life in EB.
METHODS
We searched Embase, Scopus and Cochrane between 2000 and 19th June 2023 to identify epidermolysis bullosa treatments.
RESULTS
Numerous treatments range from keeping wounds clean to newer gene therapies.
CONCLUSIONS
There is anecdotal evidence that repurposed anti-inflammatory medications can be used in the management of EB in resource poor settings.
