An Emerging Pathway Linking High Sodium Level to Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (Preprint)
Author:
Abstract
Recent studies have revealed an important role of cell metabolism in maintaining sodium homeostasis and prevention of hypertension. Findings that activation of sodium channel Nax by high level of sodium may induce cells to establish aerobic glycoses metabolic state and increase lactate release, and that activation of G-protein coupled receptor 81 (GPR81) by high level of lactate may increase blood pressure and decrease blood flow, suggested a novel pathway linking high sodium levels to hypertension. We will discuss briefly some of the recent researches in this area and integrate them into the classical view of hypertension pathologies, thus provide a view of the potential new pathway and the perspective of new questions yet to be addressed.
