Abstract
Abstract
The frequently reported effect of the partial pressure of hydrogen on the alloy 600 susceptibility to intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) in high-temperature water is explained in this paper. On the basis of thermodynamic calculations, it was demonstrated that the susceptibility of alloy 600 to IGSCC is connected with the stability of NiO in this environment. The lower the free energy of formation of NiO, the higher the susceptibility of alloy 600 to IGSCC.
