Historiographical review of the Paracquaria missions. Origin of the national schools of historians

Abstract

Introduction: The historical-cultural phenomenon that occurred in the so-called Guaraní Indian missions of the ancient province of Paracquaria in South America, was a moment of three centuries of continuity that aroused immeasurable concerns from that same time in the 17th century until well into the 18th century. in which the missions were in force. Methodology: Analyze how during the centuries of the Modern Age the missions were reflected on, leaving a large number of printed sources that constitute the first stories of these missions. Results: From these primary sources where a historiographical journey begins that has been expanded over several centuries with all types of writers, approaches, themes and diverse historiographical productions. Discussion: The varieties of writings from the 18th century in contrast to the 19th century allow us to see the changes in the way of doing history about the Jesuit missions of Garaní. Conclusion: See how the sum of authors throughout the 17th to 19th centuries gave rise to a deep knowledge about the missions, and how many of these authors in their historiographic reflection constitute the origin of the various national schools of historians of the missions.
