Abstract

an investigation has been made into the taxonomic study of algal flora in Thanikkudam River, Thrissur District, Kerala from March 2022 to February 2023. The present study documented 72 taxa belonging to 40 genera. Of these 29 species, 8 genera belong to Zygnematophyceae, 20 species under 15 genera belong to Chlorophyceae, 10 species under 7 genera belong to Bacillariophyceae,, 4 species under 3 genera belong to Cyanophyceae, 4 species under 2 genera belong to Euglenophyceae, 2 species under 2 genera belong to Trebouxiophyceae, 2 species under 2 genera belong to Coscinodiscophyceae and 1 species belongs to Chrysophyceae. Merismopedia convoluta Brébisson ex Kützing, Heynigia dictyospherioides C.Bock, Proschold & Krienitz and Lepocinclis oxyuris (Schmarda) B.Marin & Melkonian are new reports to the algal flora of Kerala.
