Abstract
H2S concentrations in the fuel at the parts per million level are known to dramatically reduce the electrochemical performance of Ni-based anodes in solid oxide fuel cells. This study presents a transport-reaction model that describes the surface (electro)chemistry of H2 electro-oxidation in the presence of H2S on a Ni-YSZ patterned anode. By including the adsorption and dissociation of H2S on the Ni surface, this model is able to directly simulate the S poisoning of the anode. Simulations of the anode polarization curve with and without H2S in the fuel at different operating conditions are presented and discussed.
